1898 Barber Quarter, Proof.
An interesting Coin t
ypical of those commonly encountered which were lightly mishandled, this shows a light scuffed area on the point of Liberty’s cheek, similar to the mark caused by being bumped by an album slide. There are also some very light hairlines and a tiny bruised area on the rim at 5:00. Otherwise, nice obviously reflective surfaces under the common darker blue toning with reddish highlights that Proofs of this period seem to develop (toning is guaranteed genuine, i.e  not A/T).  The hairlines are not terribly distracting as you have to look for them under magnifications, and the rim bump would likely not be noticeable once placed into an album page. Not unattractive and suitable as a Type example for someone who is interested in using something other than the typical specimen. Equivalent to what you will typically see certified up to a mid-grade Proof, however more eye appeal than most at that grade level which tend to be dipped out or showing excessive signs of cleaning.  As for the price listed here, it takes into account the ridiculous fees I have to pay to ebay - I am more than happy to sell for less under different circumstances.
