    Description

1899 BARBER QUARTER NGC MS63 GLORIOUS COLOR LUSTER STRIKE AND SURFACES LOOKS GEM. An apparent (to me) clashed die and "strike through" visible on the obverse upper left quadrant between  9:00 and 10:00. I believe the graders dismissed this as post mint contact, I believe it is "as struck". The swirling impression most convincingly looks like the unfurling ribbon held in the Eagle's mouth from the reverse. There are a couple of spots within that clash that appear, at a certain angle, to be "shiny" as a "hit" would be. Straight on, they are toned the same as the surrounding surface. I believe these marks may be attributed to "strike throughs". So, I say this is a GEM, with industrial anomalies that present as a post mint detraction, but are something entirely different. Really wonderful color, luster, and strike on this last of the 19th Century Barber Quarter.
