1701 'ST. GEORGE' ENGLISH WARSHIP SAILING MODEL
The first Royal George" of the British
Navy had an interesting history. Launched
under Charles II as the Royal Charles,
she was renamed the Queen by William
III, and afterwards given the name Royal
George by George I. In later years her
name was changed again, and she became
the Royal Anne, for about 1756 a new
Royal George was launched. This
famous vessel was Hawke's flagship in the
naval victory of Quiberon Bay, 1759, which
sealed the fate of France at sea for the
duration of the Seven Years War. Our
model of the Royal George of 1715 has
the unusual addition of sails, making it the
most complete English model of so early a
date.
