1950 3’ x 4’ PASADENA TOURNAMENT OF ROSES ‘Our American Heritage’ Banner NR

You are bidding on this 36” wide, 50” tall, printed cotton fabric banner/sign/flag for the “PASADENA TOURNAMENT OF ROSES – OUR AMERICAN HERITAGE” parade. Each year this parade has a different theme. ‘Our American Heritage’ was the theme for 1950. The banner is made from two cotton panels, the top with the roses (probably a standard design used for many years) and the bottom panel with the current year’s theme. These are sewn together. There are two brass hanging grommets in the upper corners. The printed rose design has been embellished with pink paint (see photo) – I don’t know if this is original or added sometime later. Made by HORTIE-VAN. This banner has been signed in ink by three people. One is “John Bennett” from whose estate in Raleigh NC this was purchased. I cannot find any connection in his obituary to LA or the Rose Parade, so I’m guessing these were three friends who simply attended the parade in 1950 and got a souvenir. Good collectible condition for its age – storage creasing, minor fabric stress damage along the seam between the panels, light fraying on the bottom edge and light moisture staining and age-related darkening to the fabric. I cannot find anything similar online, so I’ll call this RARE. No reserve for this Pasadena Rose Parade collectible.
