Pobjoy Isle of Man 1996 King Arthur Coin Set Perfect Condition in Original Box Five splendid crowns from the Isle of Man celebrate the Legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Throughout history, the ideals of Camelot have been a byword for chivalry and courtly love. It is believed that there was a real King Arthur who lived around 600AD and ruled wisely and well in the West of England. His great feats of arms and enlightened attitude inspired poets and bards over the following centuries to continually embroider the Arthurian legend, so that it has become ever stronger with the passing of time. These legal tender crowns are every charming with reverses that illustrate the Legend in splendid graphic detail. Arthur is depicted crowned in his full royal regalia, holding Excalibur in one hand and an orb in the other, his robe bearing the dragon insignia of the Pendragon family. On the second coin, Arthur's beautiful Queen - Guinevere - elegantly clad with a velvet cape over her gown, stands before the decorated pillars of Camelot. The castle itself stands in all its magnificent glory on the third coin, with Arthur's shield and crown adorning the base. Merlin, the court magician and Arthur's mentor, pens his thoughts by candlelight on the fourth crown while Sir Lancelot in full armor rides off to battle on the fifth.
