Description

This is the latest issue of the ne
wly designed
1000 Lekë Albanian banknote, based on the previous banknote of the same denomination.
The obverse of the banknote features an in-profile picture of the Albanian writer Pjetër Bogdani (1625-1689), author of Cuneus Prophetarum, considered as the masterpiece of the early Albanian literature with Biblical theme. An outline of the Bank of Albania headquarters can be seen in the background
in Optically Variable Ink, and a blazing sun in OVI.
The reverse depicts the 12
th
century Catholic church of St. Mary in Vau i Dejës, one of the rare examples of Gothic architecture in Albania, blown up in 1969 under the extreme atheist measures of the communist dictatorship in Albania. The banknote features also the national emblem, Bogdani’s vision of the heliocentric system and the Bank’s official signatures.
It came into circulation for the first time in late June 2021 and is delivered to you in excellent UNC condition.
The banknote is filled with security features, heavy embossing and watermark.
