Description
For your consideration: The Worlds Cotton Centennial Exposition Poem by Mary Ashley Townsend. This booklet is not a reproduction, it is a completey original 1885 piece. This poem was read at the opening ceremonies of the fair on December 14, 1884, with copies of the poem distributed to attendees. The official name for the fair was the 1884-1885 Worlds Industrial and Cotton Exposition. The purpose of the fair was to revitalize the once thriving pre-civil war economy of New Orleans, which had suffered through depressed times during the civil war and reconstruction period. The fair marked the 100th anniversary of the exportation of cotton from New Orleans. The booklet is in magnificent condition. Truly a great 135 year old piece marking an important period of New Orleans history. I will be happy to answer any questions
