This whimsical ceramic pie vent features an white bird with
No makers marks
Measures 4" Tall
No chips or cracks
HISTORY: First used in Europe in 1700's. Not popular in US until 1900's.
Placed in center of pie to prevent filling from boiling over,
keeps the crust from sagging.
Often a blackbird, referencing the nursery rhyme:
"Four and Twenty Blackbirds baked in a pie."
Now found in form of various birds/characters & colors.
