    EAST INDIA MAN "PITT"
East Indiaman was a general name for any sailing ship operating under charter or licence to
any of the East India Companies of the major European trading powers of the 17th through
the 19th centuries. The term is therefore used to refer to vessels belonging to the Danish,
Dutch (Oostindievaarder), English, French, Portuguese, or Swedish (ostindiefarare) East
    India companies.
Pitt, launched in 1780 as Fortitude, was captured and recaptured on her maiden voyage.
She later made five voyages for the EIC between 1786 and 1798; during this time she also
made one voyage transporting convicts from Britain to Port Jackson, New South Wales.
She was sold in 1798 and broken up in 1801.
