    Description

This original and historic GLEASON'S PICTORIAL newspaper is from 1851. Made of durable cotton rag, the "Drawing Room Companion" is 17" long by 12" wide.  This was once bound in a library collection and is from my private holdings. What makes this so valuable is that it SHOWS THE LAUNCHING OF YACHT AMERICA from which we get the oldest international sporting event THE AMERICA'S CUP.  The engraving of the America is 7" by 10" with extra border area and would look great framed. The description describes the yacht and reports the unique challenge, " The America will go to England, and race with the yacht club there. If she beats them, she is to be paid for by the club; if she is beaten, she is then to be given up to them as a forfeit."
We won, by the way :)
No rips or tears with the America engraving and article, just some minor foxing marks to the left of the building as shown. Besides the engraving and article of THE YACHT AMERICA, there are other excellent nautical items, such as THE FLYING CLOUD, STEAMER CLEOPATRA and STEAMER GEN. WINFIELD SCOTT all ready to be framed. The newspaper is being sold complete. Again, there is edge wear and small tears as shown. Page 77 is ripped in half but doesn't affect any of the nautical offerings, just non-nautical writings (news briefs and novel installment).
Immediate shipping after receipt of payment. Enjoy! The newspaper will ship flat and insured along with the vintage ship in the bottle.
Note: I ship in boxes for security and safety. As a buyer myself, I am amazed how some sellers will ship in those thin gray/silver bags to save money, even with fragile items. When I do have items that are light and not fragile I will use padded envelopes. For all other items, I use boxes with insurance at no additional cost. For very fragile items, I will ship a box within a box. This extra mail order safety protocol is included in the shipping quote. Tracking is included with everything I sell.
