Just dance! You’ll feel lighter on your feet in this playful vintage necktie featuring red and white brocade ballerinas dancing en pointe across a matte navy grenadine ground with a windowed, parquetry-like weave. 100% silk, made by Royalist and retailed through the Men’s Shops of former New Jersey clothing chain R.J. Goerke Co., c.early/mid-1950s. Excellent vintage condition, likely narrowed in the past.
The name R.J. Goerke can refer to either father Rudolph J. Goerke (1868-1938) or son Rudolph J. Goerke, Jr. (1897-1964). Founded in 1912 as the Goerke-Kirch Company, that business was succeeded by the R.J. Goerke Company in 1936, which once boasted locations in Plainfield, Elizabeth, Asbury Park, and Red Bank, NJ, as well as Stamford, CT. In 1962 the chain was purchased by Genung’s of Mount Vernon, NY.
