Solar Maximum Mission (SolarMax) Satellite Collectable: 2 and 1/4" Mini Model, Space Explorers Series
This is a mint condition, small scale model of the Solar Max satellite. Part of the Nasa Space Explorers series, this is not easy to find. It's made of hard plastic, and the solar panels rotate completely. It's a tiny bit over 2 and 1/4 inches across, and looks just like the real thing
. This is part of my spacecraft collection, and is in never played with, only stored away condition. Both the solar panels and the communications dish rotate. I have 2 of these available and you can get one or both if you like!
The SolarMax was unusual in that is was launched by a Delta rocket in 1980, but had a partial failure the following year. However, it was repaired in orbit by a Space Shuttle Challenger crew in 1984
    -
a brand new procedure in those days! The spacecraft continued it's mission for several more years, until it re-entered the Earth's atmosphere in December 1989, and was destroyed.
Depiction of Solar Max taken from Wikipedia.
