This medal shows St Tarcisius holding the holy eucharist to his chest in protection as he walks through the streets of Rome .
We know about St Tarcisius from a poem written in the 4th century by Pope Damasus. Tradition holds that he was a boy who lived during the Christian persecutions of the Emperor Valerian. He was entrusted with the task of taking the Eucharist to his fellow Christians who were in prison. While running his errand, he was attacked by a pagan mob; and rather than handing over the blessed sacrament, he protected it with his life and was beaten to death. Some stories claim that when the mob opened the case carrying the sacrament, it had miraculously disappeared.
The medal was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
