Although the majority of my listings consist of vintage neckties from the 1920s to the 1960s, I can think of no neckwear more appropriate for this time than this bold tie from the 1970s. While it does in fact date back approximately to the bicentennial era and boldly display the red, white and blue of our flag, it represents that which is far more American (and certainly more than the polyester from which it’s woven), namely the lofty ideals of civic engagement, acceptance of those of all backgrounds, and religious tolerance to which all Americans might aspire. Established in 1948, Suburban Temple-Kol Ami of Beachwood, OH is a Reform Jewish congregation which by charter promotes “quality religious education, freedom of thought, and primary civic allegiance to the United States”. In the following decades, the congregation has been proactive in increasing interfaith understanding and promoting acceptance of all walks of life, welcoming and including interfaith couples and the LGBTQ+ community. Made for/by Suburban Temple of Beachwood, OH, c.1970s. Excellent vintage condition.
