    Description

This striking weaving is a pahikung -- a supplementary warp weaving from Sumba. It was woven on a back tension loom that uses supplementry warps to embellish handwoven cotton textiles with geometric and zoomorphic designs.  East Sumba is the only region in Indonesia with such a masterful use of supplementary warp decoration.  I purchased this piece in 1994 and it has been in my collection since.
    Measurements: 60" x 15"
The weaving is in very good condition with no holes or fraying and mild fading on the edges.
