Description

This is an extremely rare wooden barn door of the Toraja people from Sulawesi Island in Indonesia.
There are very few such fine items in museums and more so for sale.
It is made of jack fruit wood, which is very durable and tough.
The barn door, depicting the ancestor [aluk to dolu], is always opposite the great origin house [tonkanan], out of which each member of the Toraja is part of, mostly the nobility.
This specific item is at least 150 years old, if not much older.
We can tell that by the typical spiral cravings, the actual human features, which correlate that specific time.
