    Description

A hand colored cacheted cover hand cancelled aboard the US Navy destroyer USS HERNDON DD-198 at San Juan Porto Rico on Jul 2, 1940.
The ship oliginally served in the US Navy. Decommissioned in 1922, she was re-commissioned into the US Coast Guard in 1930.  She was then re-commissioned into the US Navy, transferred to the Royal Navy as one of the Famous 50 destroyers, and then transferred to the Soviet Navy.
The cachet maker seems to have omitted 3 of the destroyer's stacks while the postal clerk had trouble with the spelling of the ship's location.
The rear flap is not sealed. There is are no postal markings on the back. The edges of the cover are toned.
I will combine postage on multiple successful bids.
