    Description

USS INDIANAPOLIS CA-35 Memorial naval first day cover with
postmark from Washington, DC dated May 21, 1996.
This blue 1945 harbor ship photo, in heavy clouds, was printed on cachet #1591 by
Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. This brave ship was torpedoed in 1945 and 889
of the crew were lost in the South Pacific waves as presented
in the movie "Jaws". The cruiser had just completed the top secret,
high-speed mission, to deliver parts of an atomic bomb to Tinian Island.
Cover franked with a 32 cent US flag stamp (FDOI).
The cover was prepared on a un-gummed, archive quality envelope.
Seller has over 70 different DD & Cruiser covers. Also a cover with a photo
of the ship at Mare island. Check out my
