Design Research was a retail store that started in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1953 but expanded to New York and San Francisco and other cities as a lifestyle store. They were huge influencers of
contemporary
urban design of the time. They were out of business by 1978.
They were the exclusive importers of Finnish designer Marimekko and her textiles. Although unmarked, these are very possibly some of her designs. With the exception of the orange and yellow tie they carry the Design Research tag
This ad is for the 3 cotton ties pictured.
They measure 54” in length with a width of 4” . The orange and yellow one has a width of 4.25”
These are in used
vintage condition with some minor spots, stains etc but a wonderful collection of
vintage ties
