    Description

Beautiful model of Flying Fish Clipper ship 1850s.
The Flying Fish was first launched in 1851 with Sampson and Tappan being the owners.  This ship was extremely large, Length is 196.6 feet. Beam is 27.1 feet, Draught 22 feet with fully rigged sails and Tonnage 1505 tons.  In 1858 the ship was wrecked while coming out of a Chinese Port with a cargo of tea leaves.  It was condemned at that time
and was surrendered to the underwriters who sold her to a Manilla merchant. After being rebuilt she was renamed the
    El Bueno Suceso
    .
The name plate shows this to be a model of the Flying Fish. That's about all I know for sure. This model was found in a dump years ago by a relative. Have no other information. The hull, Masts and display base are wood. The lifeboats and the white strip running around the hull are plastic.
This appears to be a home made model but could be based on a kit. It is crude but that is the beauty of this model.
Model size is 16" long, 5" wide at widest point and 14" high including the base.
