Here is a beautiful vintage hand carved teak Jodang chest also known as Wedding Chest, from Indonesia. A Jodang is wooden chest from Madura, Indonesia, it is usually created from teak, as is this piece.
The tradition is the groom would carve the chest for his bride. The chest was then presented at the wedding celebration and filled with gifts for the bride. This gorgeous piece was purchased in Bali, in 1964 and has gorgeous hand carved detail. Measures 34”L x 20.5”W x 19.5”H. Very sturdy and can be used as a table, perfect for foyer to keep shoes being it has ample storage inside, decorative vessel for plants,see last pics.
