    Description

    Offering a
Vintage Novelty-Stamp Pad, Letter & Number Child's Toy Play Stamp Kit-- circa 1919
This is a child's play letter stamp kit. It looks complete and has the original stamp pad tin. It is dated by the box graphics with the boy's and the girl's clothes. But better dated by the airplane in the picture which I have identified as a
Thomas-Morse S-4 Scout. These planes were made in 1917 to 1919 and were common throughout the 1920's. Under the stamp pad is where someone tested a date stamp that reads "MAR 35 PAID". So the stamp pad was in use until at least 1935.
The Thomas-Morse S-4 Scout was an American biplane advanced trainer, operated by the United States Army and the United States Navy. Dubbed the "Tommy" by pilots who flew it, the aircraft became the favorite single-seat training airplane produced in the U.S. during World War I. It had a long and varied career beginning with the S-4B, which first appeared in the summer of 1917.[2] - Wikipedia
