    Description

    Very Scarce ribbon
Souvenir of The World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition.  New Orleans.
1884.  2-1/2 x 11-1/2 inches.  With Red and blue thread lettering, flag, eagle, etc. and printed portrait of President Chester A. Arthur.  Issued by the Phoenix Mfg. Co., Paterson, NJ.  A very scarce ribbon.  Searching the net, I could only find one other, that being a Stevensgraph.
This exposition was held in New Orleans, at a time when nearly one third of all cotton produced in the United States was handled in New Orleans.  the Centennial being that of the earliest surviving record of export of cotton from the United States in 1784.  the main building of the exposition covered 33 acres and was the largest roofed structure constructed to that time.
