    "Pulwar" India River Square Sailed Dug-Out Sailboat 1920s Large Trade Card

    THIS IS AN ORIGINAL 1920s TRADE  ADVERTISING CARD
    THE PULWAR
    A type of Indian river boat
    is the Pulwar, which is of primi-
    tive construction and used for
    carrying rice. The boat is not
    unlike an early Egyptian craft,
    and is either a dug-out, or a dug-
    out forms the foundation of its
    construction. A square sail is
    used, and there is a high platform
    on which the steersman stands,
    working a steering oar which is
    also reminiscent of the Nile, a
    similar rudder being in use in
    Egypt in the eighteenth dynasty.
